EU Siloxanes D5 & D6 Restriction: Full Cosmetic Ban Timeline

Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/1328 amending REACH restricts Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) and Dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) to concentrations below 0.1% by weight. The general restriction on placing on the market applies from 6 June 2026.

For leave-on cosmetic products the same 0.1% limit becomes fully applicable from 6 June 2027. Rinse-off products containing D5 already faced earlier restrictions. Brands should reformulate affected products (especially leave-on skincare and haircare) well ahead of the 2027 deadline and update safety assessments and CPNP notifications.

Kompass Europe supports reformulation planning, PIF updates and CPNP filings related to siloxane restrictions.
